Donor Options

The most common activity for a donor is to simply leave a bag of shelf-stable panty food on their doorstep every month or two. If always optional, no pressure.

When a donor signs up they are automatically registered to leave a bag of food on their porch. We offer other ways to participate if its more convenient;

  1. Shop Online: Most chapters set up an Amazon or Walmart storefront with targeted items the local pantries need the most.
  2. Donate Money
  3. Self-Deliver:  You will receive the pantry location and hours of operation in a text or email.

Many donors will have a 4th option, which is bringing a bag to central location, we call these “Community Events”.   They work great for a business, church, school, club or even a neighborhood.

More information about all these options is provided further down the page.

LEAVING A BAG ON YOUR DOORSTEP:

If it’s the first time, the donor may be asked to use any bag or box they have.   When the food donation is picked up the driver will leave behind a bright green reusable bag.  Attached to the bag will be a “Thank You” card.  The card will show the next pick-up event date and time.    And it will include a ”needs list” for their local Food Bank or Pantry.

A few days before the pick-up day the donor will receive an email reminding them about the date.   If they can’t leave a bag in front they click “UPDATE STATUS” to opt-out of this upcoming event.   They then get an option to do any of the 3 things listed above this one time (shop online, donate cash or self deliver).

If the donor keeps their status to leave a bag out, they may forget.  When a driver notices no bag, they leave a “Sorry We Missed” you card.  They can scan the QR code to be given the same 3 options listed above (shop online, donate cash or self deliver).

It’s all about making the donor experience as simple and flexible as possible!

  • Click “Resend Login Link Email”.   If you don’t see an email within 2 minutes check your spam folder.   (Or request a new password).

PREFER TO USE A PASSWORD?

  • Go to www.ASGHelps.org and click “Login”
  • Click “Reset Password” if you aren’t sure what it is
  • or, if you are already logged in click “Manage Account” and then “Change Password” if you want to change it.

If you still have problems, write to info@ASGHelps.org.

Each chapter has a primary contact.   You can get this email, and often a cell number, by going to your personal site page.   Go to Question #1 for more information to get to your page.   Once there, look at the top (green bar section) to see your chapter admin information.

You can also talk to your Event Manager, this is the person that runs the event coming up.   Click on your EVENTS page to get that information.  Its toward the bottom of the EVENTS page.

We have a unique program.  Our “inventory” is free and our “logistics network” is free.   Our cost is what it takes to connect donors, drivers and pantries into a smooth work-flow.  About $1 is all it takes for us to deliver more than $150 of food to a Food Bank or pantry in a local community.    CLICK THIS LINK TO DONATE TO ASG!    Thank you very very much!!

Most chapters offer 3 alternatives;  donate money, shop on-line or deliver the bag to the pantry yourself.   Look for any email or text we send you as a reminder to an upcoming event, and click GO TO MY SITE PAGE. (Or follow the Log In options in Question #1)  Then select “Events”.

You can also change your on-going donor status rather than just for the upcoming event.  You do that by clicking CHANGE STATUS in that same email, and then going to your PROFILE page.  Look for the DONOR section, and pick the donation method you prefer.   You can even turn off your donor status completely.

If your going to be out of town for awhile or just want to take a time-out, you can set an “Out Until” date.  Scroll down on that PROFILE page to the “out until” setting, and put the date you’ll be back.

We accept any bag or box that can be carried safely. When we pick up your food donation we will leave behind a reusable bag for next time.  (Note; not all chapters use bags, and every chapter is going to run out every once in awhile).

If you don’t have a reusable bag, use any bag or box this time.

If you wish to leave multiple bags it’s great! Many donors leave more than bag out front. We will take them all.  We only leave one of our reusable bags, so just use any bag or box you have for the others.    AND THANK YOU!!

This is a great question and shows you really care!

Use any email we send you to click GO TO MY PAGE, and then click on EVENTS to see your upcoming events.  Just below that is a “needs list” for your local pantry.  (Or, go to the 1st question to get Log In help to get to your events page).

All pantries will say the #1 thing they need are proteins, these are in the shortest supply.  Canned meats or any other high protein shelf-stable foods (canned or dried beans, peanut butter, nuts, etc) help the most.

The next best things are what we call “center of plate” foods; vegetables, pasta, rice, and other foods that create a balanced healthy meal.

Cereals, breakfast bars and boxed foods that are low in sugar are fantastic.

Condiments, spices, and other pantry foods are good.

Some chapters will even ask for household items, such as cleaning supplies or diapers.

If you’d like to take a time-out from event notifications, it’s easy.   Use the Log In question at the top of the list.   Click on “PROFILE” on your site page.   Scroll down to “OUT UNTIL” and select the date you want to restart your notifications.

If you wish to opt out of all future notifications, you will find a “Donate” section on that same PROFILE page.  Just change your status to any options; self deliver, shop online, donate money, or Opt Out of all donation methods.

We are sorry to see you go!  If you’re moving, email us to see if we can “move” your account to another chapter.  Info@asghelps.org.

If you need to end your donation status completely, here are the steps.

1. Go to your PERSONAL SITE PAGE (see log in instructions under the first question at the top).

2. Click “MANAGE PROFILE”.   Scroll down to the DONOR section.   Click the button to change your donor status, and select the option to no longer be a donor of any type.

3.  Be sure to click “Save”

If you are a driver, and you wish to discontinue that, you’ll see a “DRIVER” status button just below.

If you wouldn’t mind, we’d like to know why you decided to opt out. Please send us an email at info@ASGHelps.org

THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR PROGRAM!!

Ask your Chapter Admin to set up a “Drop-Off Community Campaign”. You can find out how to reach your chapter admin by looking at question #2 above.

This method works great for a school, business, health club, or any other group may just want to have donors bring the bags to a central place.

Your donors register using a special QR code or URL link you send them.  They get notifications to bring their bag to the place you designate, during the date/time window you designate.   It works great!

Log in to your Site Page (see Question #1) and you’ll see how to contact your Site Admin, it’s at the top/middle of each page.

Ask your Chapter Admin to set up a “Pick-Up Community Campaign” for you.  You can find out how to reach your chapter admin by looking at question #2 above.

This works great for a neighborhood where one person (or several) go around and pick up those bags.

You contact your neighbors with a special QR code or clickable URL link, asking them to register for your ‘Pick Up Community Campaign”.    They will get an email or text a few days before the pick up date, reminding them to leave a bag out front.

You decide the pick up date and time.

You then go around, pick up the bags and take them to the pantry or Food Bank you choose.   Youa

To reach your Chapter Admin, log in to your Site Page (see Question #1).  Their information is on the top center of each page.

DONOR OPTIONS: More details

This section provides more details for donors that prefer a different method;

SHOP ON-LINE:   Most chapters create an on-line store front using Amazon or Walmart.   If your donor-type is set to this preference you’ll receive an email or text a few days before the pick-up event reminding you to go on-line and shop.   The items listed are hand-picked by the chapter for your local pantry.   Select as many items as you wish, pay, and that’s it!  The items will arrive to the panty in your name a few days later.

DONATE:  Money goes a long way, and is greatly appreciated.  Many chapters will provide their own donation link, which comes to you via text or email a few days before the event.  If you wish to donate to us, click here.  We convert every dollar we receive into more than $60 of food.

SELF-DELIVER:  Maybe you live behind a locked gate?  Whatever your reason, you can always just deliver the food yourself.  A few days before the pick-up event we will send you a text or email with your pantry’s location and hours of operation.

Community Campaigns

A great way to organize “A Simple Gesture” event is a Community Campaign.  This differs from our typical event where drivers are getting optimized ‘least mile’ routes to pick up food from your doorstep.

One advantage of these events is they can occur any day or time the event organizer prefers.   And they can recur on any schedule.   They work great for a school, business, church, club, condo, high rise, or apartment complex.

There are two types;  “Bring your food here”, or “We will pick it up”.

BRING YOUR FOOD HERE - COMMUNITY CAMPAIGN:

An example is a good way to explain.   A school wants to organize a recurring food drive.  They set it up on our ASG WEB APP for the last week of every odd-numbered month.   A few days before the event the registered donors get an email “Don’t forget to bring your bag to room 201 between Tuesday, March 23rd and Thursday March 25th!”.  At the end of the campaign someone volunteers to take the food the pantry nearby.

A business can do the same thing, perhaps offering to join in the pizza party they will sponsor for all those that partI participated.   A Health club with a high frequency of visits is a perfect place to do it.  Clubs that meet on a regular basis can get one started with little trouble.

Registration works about the same. You or your Chapter Administrator sets up a recurrent campaign.  You are given a QR code that’s printable and a URL link that can be placed into an email. Anyone that clicks or scans that link is registered into the community campaign. They then receive text or email notifications.

WE WILL PICK UP - COMMUNITY CAMPAIGN

The only difference is the text/email reminds people to put their food donation on their doorstep.

Otherwise, it’s the same idea.  You work with your Chapter Admin to set up the campaign, picking the dates and frequency.   You then go around to your neighbors with a QR code to scan, or you send an email for them to click.  As they register, they are registering into your campaign.  You take it from there!
